Best Known Cannabis and CBD Advocates

Best Known Cannabis and CBD Advocates

With cannabis hitting the mainstream, and the benefits of hemp more widely known, cannabidiol (CBD) is quickly catching on with people from all walks of life. A recent survey showed that two out of three Brits say they would be willing to try products containing CBD. And with legalization sweeping the globe, even high-profile personalities are opening up about their use of cannabis, and specifically CBD.

1. Whoopi Goldberg

She’s been an actor and public figure for decades, but Whoopi’s love of cannabis wasn’t well-known until recently. Originally a smoker of cannabis, she now ingests it to help ease symptoms of glaucoma. She’s also an outspoken advocate for CBD’s many health benefits, including for menstrual cramps.

2. Kim Kardashian

Known mainly for her reality TV persona, Kim has also become a staunch CBD advocate as of late, sharing her struggle with anxiety on social media and beyond. With her extremely busy lifestyle, she swears by the cannabis compound, saying it “saved my life.”

3. Blair Gibbs

Blair has been fighting for cannabis legalization in the UK for many years. Recently, he was appointed to Boris Johnson’s administration, where he will serve as a special adviser on crime and justice. “The objective now,” he said, “is to get the British government to concede that cannabis...is not dangerous, and has established health benefits for some patients.”

4. Riley Cote

After many years in the high-impact sport of professional hockey, Riley had his fair share of physical ailments and turned to cannabis to relieve his pain. In 2011, he founded Hemp Heals, a non-profit which aims to “promote a cleaner, more sustainable way of life by including hemp as a renewable alternative to the toxic industries that have currently hijacked society.”

5. Olivia Wilde

Glamorous Olivia uses CBD on her feet to help with pain associated with wearing heels for long periods, such as on the red carpet. She’s also been known to use CBD for body aches and pains after spending months on end performing on Broadway.

6. Bernie Sanders

Bernie, one of the most popular US presidential hopefuls, has been rallying Americans to support legalization for decades. In October, he announced that he would “immediately issue an executive order to declassify marijuana as a controlled substance.” He also plans to reverse the criminal records of those with cannabis-related crimes.

7. Snoop Dogg

With his long history of being associated with cannabis, Snoop is by far one of the most well-known advocates of cannabis on this list. He is such a fan of the plant that he founded the online cannabis lifestyle magazine, Merry Jane, and has been an advocate for legalization for decades.

8. Norman Lamb

The Liberal Democrat MP, who famously consumed cannabis on British television to protest its illegal status has been a major supporter of legalization in the UK for many years. On the subject of his own use, he says, “taking this oil is purely for sleeping, for relaxation.”

9. Mike Tyson

A career that involves taking and throwing punches on a regular basis does a lot of damage to your body, and Mike is no exception. He turned to cannabis decades ago to help with pain. Now, known the world over as a boxing legend, Mike continues to be a vocal supporter of legalizing cannabis, and has been known to enjoy CBD.

10. Queen Victoria

Yes, it’s true. The British royal apparently consumed cannabis to relieve menstrual cramps. In 1890, her doctor was quoted as saying “"when pure and administered carefully, [cannabis] is one of the most valuable medicines we possess." A bit surprising, isn’t it?

Cannabis in some form or another has been around since time immemorial. With new advances in technology in the last century, we were able to isolate specific compounds (like CBD and THC), and change how we use this beneficial plant. We can only hope that with more advances and legalization, the power of cannabis will be fully recognized and put to use!
